2003 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards
The 2003 UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation were announced recently. A total of 22 entries were submitted from nine countries in Asia Pacific. The entries included five religious buildings, five institutions, two residential buildings, four commercial projects, three urban conservation programs, one memorial, one bridge and one botanical garden.The ‘Award of Excellence’ was given to the Guangyu Ancestral Hall (Conghua Province, Guangdong Province, China).
Two ‘Awards of Distinction’ went to the Water Towns of the Yangtze River (Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces, China) and the Astana of Syed Mir Muhammad (Ghanche District, Baltisan, Pakistan).
Three ‘Awards of Merit’ were given to: Cangqiao Historical Street (Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, China); The Medina Grand, Adelaide Treasury (Adelaide, Australia); and Virtuous Bridge (Medan, Indonesia).
