Why is university level education important?

-Today , the field is very complex; the apprentice system is too unreliable.

-If there are university programs, funding is more availible for research/development

-Paves the way for eventual qualification/accreditation

-Allows for ease movement for professionals- global job market (cooperating between different countries)

-Encourages the process of self-education which SHOULD continue for the entire career of conservator

Well, I have decided to give support to you in your effort in this English topic. Although I think that your ”self-discussion” is relatively funny. :D

Thank you, my dear, for change of questionnaire, because thanks to that improvement I could add my vote (yae) about my education. As you know, you originally forgot to the possibility ” Higher professional school”.

So, have a nice day :)

I´m so sorry I am very busy now, but I would like to delight you. :)
Well, first but not last, I found the web site of “my” school for you. If you want you can discover all informations about it there. Click here. Then you can click on part “Restoration of furniture”.
    See you

It might be relevant to compare two different approches:

The “Traditional” craft vs. scientific approach

    traditional skills:
    • Artistic / Hand Skills
    • Color Matching Abilities
    • Knowledge of Historical
    Techniques and Materials
    • Drawing / Draftsmanship
    • Connoisseurship
    • Business Sense

    Science:

    – Deterioration and Preservation
    of Materials
    – Use and Development of
    Modern Materials
    – Analytical Techniques
    – Display / Environment
    – Travel and Packing
    – Storage
    • Ethics
    • Documentation
    • Communication / Relevance
    – Colleagues (Publication)
    – Larger Public (Exhibitions and
    Initiatives)
    – “Stake holders” (Strategy)
    • Management
    • Legal Aspects
    • The Global Context
    • Sustainability (The long term…)
